I remember one of the first few writers to call Ehrlich out making a point to mention that Ehrlich's chosen aesthetic description of the experience of overcrowding was not being on the streets of New York City during rush hour, but being mobbed by beggars somewhere in South Asia. The term "ecofascist" had not yet been coined but that's basically what they called him.
